"Faith is not an easy virtue;
but in the broad world of a person's total journey through time to eternity,
faith is not only a gracious companion, but an essential guide."
— Theodore M. Hesburgh

From the beginning of his working career, most of his jobs have been directly related to helping people enjoy their time while vacationing or spending their leisure time. In college, Matt was a manager of a marina in Fort Collins, Colorado. His job entailed supervising a staff that rented boats on the lake for the day and working directly with the boaters. Matt excels is his "make it right - make it great" attitude - he does everything possible to ensure that the guests have a great time. Also while in college, Matt participated in "Semester At Sea." After graduating with a degree in Entrepreneurial Business from Colorado State University (CSU), Matt was a casino host at the Flamingo Hotel on the Las Vegas strip. This job encompassed the essence of the service industry.   Additionally, Matt was a restaurant/bar manager for the Rockslide Brewpub in Grand Junction, Colorado, USA and prior to relocating to Cat he completed eight years of employ in the sales department with Delta Rigging and Tools. The biggest starfish ever!Sooner (McKay), Sooner Halvorson, co-ownerSooner Halvorson has a diverse background. Her studies have included Mass Communications, Sociology, and Film. However, the majority of her practical experience has come from the work field. From 2004-2010 she owned and operated a small retail business that depended greatly on customer relations and satisfaction. As a 3rd generation perfumist/apothecarist and custom bath & body shop owner (where consumable products are made to the customer’s specifications,) she learned daily "greener living" practices , as well as the art of a highly individualized customer experience. Prior to owning her shop she spent a year in AmeriCorps working in youth oriented community service  projects in Colorado, USA. She spent several years in Los Angeles, California working in the film & television industry but then ventured into investment banking. As Director of Communications & Investor Relations for a L.A. based investment banking firm, she developed and oversaw delivery of consumer marketing campaigns, investor attraction and retention strategies and helped the management of struggling publicly-traded companies. That experience has given her the background to help develop the tourism industry on Cat Island by creating programs and marketing strategies on the community level. Before relocating to Cat to open HHVR with Matt, Sooner operated the Halvorson's transportation business, "She's A Hot Shot LLC" in Western Colorado. Once on Cat she has become actively involved in the creation of a Stewardship & Recycling Club, working to implement a recycling program on the island while working with local youth.

Stella & Mattie Halvorson

Matt and Sooner have two daughters (Mattie ages 7 and Stella age 10) who both reside full-time at the resort.  Fun and outgoing island girls, Stella and Mattie love hosting other kids and grown ups - showing them where the good shell hunting areas are and showing them the local wildlife (especially frogs).

Halvorson House is a pet-friendly place. We have 2 small dogs, 3 cats, a friendly goat named Charlie, as well as a 37+ year old horse, (Gretchen) who is native to Cat Island. Our pet family continues to slowly grow.
