We have used the following routes and airlines to Nassau and were pleased with the airlines, distance and customer service:

Continental Airlines through Fort Lauderdale, FL
 Delta Airlines through Atlanta, GA
 US AIrways through Charolette, NC
 American Airlines through Dallas, TX.
JetBlue is offering several direct flights into Nassau from Florida, New York and a few other major cities in the US.
*(we always originated in the US and have not traveled from any other country. If traveling from another country we recommend flying in to Nassau from your nearest international airport. If your nearest airport does not have a carrier that services Nassau, we recommend traveling through a major Southern US city.
Useful airport codes:
NAS -Nassau International
ATC - Arthur's Town Airport (10 min. from resort)
(TBI-New Bight is also on Cat Island but is on the south end, 50 minutes away from HHVR. not recommended but if you are routed to New Bight the air carrier provides shuttle transportation to the resort)
For the more adventurous you can take the Mail Boat from Nassau to Cat. It leaves Nassau Tuesday nights and arrives 13 hours later-ish (late morning) at Cat. We have been told there is a place to sleep on the boat. It costs around $50 round trip. It comes back the following week and you can take it back to Nassau, departing in the late afternoon/early evening. It's a boat so it's kind of "go with the flow" literally travel.
If you are thinking about mail boat travel to Cat Island or just intrigued,  read this blog - it says it all.
